We have identified an issue with the earthing within the lighting unit on the above two Bathstore cabinets potentially affecting stock sold between September 2002 and January 2008.

Under extreme circumstances, an earthing failure could cause the cabinet to become live, possibly leading to serious injury. Although there have been no reported incidents, as a prudent retailer Bathstore has withdrawn the affected products from sale and as a precautionary measure, will be replacing the affected lighting unit within the cabinets, free of charge. Accordingly, if you still own, or live in a property, where one of these cabinets has been installed, please stop using the lighting unit immediately. You can continue to use the cabinet as normal.

At a time convenient to you, we would like to replace the lighting unit with a new certified and safe unit. We expect to be in a position to carry out this work from the end of August. The lighting unit requires installation by a qualified engineer. Please complete the online form below and once we have received your response we will be in touch to arrange a convenient time for our engineer to visit. In the event that the cabinet is not installed at your address, please provide the contact details for the property at which the cabinet is located by completing Parts 1 and 2 on the online form.

Liberty Bath Shower Screen (Straight and/or Curved) before August 2008

Some customers may have purchased a Liberty Bath shower screen from us.

We have found that on a small number of occasions the hinge brackets supplied with the Liberty Bath Screen have been damaged as a result of poor installation. This has led to some screens becoming unstable months or years later. Having investigated cases where brackets have failed, we are satisfied that these result from poor installation, often a failure to follow the installation instructions.  Although Bathstore cannot be responsible for poor installation, customer care is extremely important to us.We therefore want to take action to minimise the risk of injury to our customers through a screen collapsing because of a failure of a particular bracket, regardless of where any fault might lie.

It can be difficult to detect cases of mis-installation when the screen is in position and, as a precautionary measure, we are instigating a programme to replace, free of charge, all brackets of a particular type. There are two types of the hinge bracket, one is a single piece which is chrome plated, the other is two piece which is light grey with a chromed slide-on cover. We will be replacing all of the single piece brackets. These issues don’t affect the two piece light grey and chrome brackets or any other shower screens in the Bathstore range.

In the first instance we would like you to identify which type of hinge bracket you have on both curved and straight screens. There are two easy identifying features that differentiate the two types of bracket:

1) The cover of the two piece top hinge bracket can be slid off; the one piece top hinge bracket cannot (it has two screws passing all the way through the bracket).
2) The two piece bottom hinge bracket has a deep cut-out revealing the grey inner bracket; the one piece bottom hinge bracket has a smaller cut-out and all seen areas are chromed.
Please refer to the identification instructions on the following page to help with this. If you have the two piece type you don’t need to take any further action.

If you have the two piece type, the bracket with your screen does not require replacement. However, please can you phone us on 0800 085 6144 or complete the form below, so that we can update our records accordingly.
