3 top morning routines for the modern woman

Between the soul-destroying sound of your alarm and rocking up at work ready for action, there is one vital task to complete: your morning routine.

For the modern woman, this time of the day is when you become the strong, confident, independent woman everyone knows and loves, so we’ve put together three top-quality, award-winning* morning routines to help you feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to take on the world.

Detox routine

Whether it’s because of a big night out with a girls, a lack of sleep because of a restless baby, or anything in-between, sometimes we all need a good old-fashioned detox in the morning.

The best way to begin a detox sesh is with an action-packed workout routine – painful though this might be, especially if you’re not a morning person! For something maintainable you can do every day, try creating a quick 15 minute, high-intensity interval workout including some weights and cardio to get your blood pumping. This can easily be done in your bedroom or living room, so you can get in some exercise without leaving the house.

After this, when you’re all good and sweaty, jog to the kitchen and make a fruit smoothie – the more different types you combine, the better! Get some porridge oats and natural yoghurt in there to make it filling, and this will keep hunger at bay for longer.

Now, it’s time for a shower. Having the temperature nice and hot (not scalding though – we’re not suggesting you scorch your poor skin to wake yourself up!) will open up your pores and give your skin a good steam. A powerful blast of water will give your muscles a much-needed massage too.

With your mind and body refreshed, you’re now ready to dry off, get dressed, and show the world what you’re made of.

Beauty routine




Sometimes, your priority is looking your best from head to toe. In this case, your morning routine will revolve around beautifying.

The first step is a relaxing soak with a face mask. Looking after your skin is fundamental to a beauty routine, so invest in a good body scrub to keep your skin looking fresh all day long. A hair-pampering session may also be in order, so after shampooing try using a leave-in conditioner to keep your hair feeling sleek and vibrant.

Power routine




For the days when you want to feel ready to take on the world, you need a morning routine fit for an absolute superhero. Some occasions call for some serious preparation, and this is one way to do it.

To start with, we all know that belting out a bit of Beyoncé/Aretha/Dusty is the ultimate way to begin your day, and will leave you feeling truly empowered… even if the big notes are on the wrong side of ambitious. (Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.)

The shower is undoubtedly the best place for a morning sing-along, so grab yourself a nifty little Bluetooth speaker for the bathroom to complement your show-stopping vocals.

Once you’re showered, it’s time to pick the outfit that’s going to win you that client or earn that promotion. For most of us, the Cher Horowitz closet from Clueless is just a dream, but don’t let that stop you from picking your most capable-looking outfit.

A healthy breakfast packed full of brain food is a must-have. Wholegrain cereals with fruits and nuts will work a treat, and avocado on multigrain toast is sure to give you a boost before you begin the day.

Next, it’s over to the mirror to do your hair and make-up and – if necessary – practise your pitch. You’ll also need room to give your outfit a look-over from every angle to ensure you look just perfect, so a long mirror would be an ideal addition to your bathroom.

Top tip: Have a lint roller standing by in case of stray hairs.

Just remember, take a second to breathe in front of the mirror and remind yourself: you’ve got this in the bag.
