I am on a tight budget... can I still find a cheap basin that I'll love?

Basins are an essential part of a bathroom suite, but they don’t have to cost a fortune. There are a range of good quality basins available at a reasonable price, which can kit out your bathroom to a high standard on a very small budget.

Just because you are buying on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t add a touch of luxury to your bathroom. Rectangular basins are very stylish, modern and attractive, and give any bathroom a spa-like quality. At the lowest end of the price spectrum, you can find some of these basins for less than £50. Low cost does not have to mean low quality, especially if you are buying from a reputable retailer, so choosing one of these inexpensive rectangular basins could help you to create a modern look for your bathroom for very little money.

Alternatively, if you fancy the more traditional, demi basins, this is usually the style you can buy for the least amount of money. Available with either one or two taps, these basins are elegant as well as practical. They have a flat edge at the back, which fits flush against the wall, while the front curves out like a half-moon. These are available in good quality porcelain, which is easy to clean and very difficult to scratch, making them an ideal choice for everyday use.

A cheaper basin does not necessarily mean a basin of lesser quality. So long as you buy from a reputable retailer, you can find basins of all prices made of sturdy, reliable materials such as porcelain, which also cleans very easily. Marble or coloured basins are typically more expensive, so most of the low-cost basins available will be porcelain and are typically a brilliant white. This is easy to match into any bathroom suite with almost any colour scheme, and is a great choice for any budget bathroom.

As another way to save money, it might be an idea to wall-mount your basin. You can buy a bottle trap to sort out the plumbing and if you want to secure the basin to the wall yourself, the fixture materials don’t cost a fortune. Alternatively, you could buy a pedestal to fix the basin onto, for a cost-effective solution.

These look very minimalist and elegant, so even though they are low in price, they are high in quality. They also come in a number of shapes! If you have bought a budget basin which is rectangular, there is a similarly low-cost pedestal which will match beautifully and give your bathroom suite the luxurious appeal that would come from spending a bit more.

Creating the bathroom of your dreams doesn’t have to cost you a fortune – you can kit out your bathroom in sophisticated, durable fixtures without breaking the bank. Basins are no exception, since there are many available at a low cost that are both appealing and reliable. The right basin can add a real sense of character to a bathroom, even if you are working on a tight budget. The important thing is to invest in quality – a cheaper basin may require repairs in the long-term, so it is always worth investigating which basins are the most durable for your price range, and be sure to shop with a reputable retailer.
